The Cryo-EM Facility offers access to high-end electron microscopy for biological samples to users from academia and industry.
The Cryo-EM Facility (www.BECM.be) provides our users high throughput data collection on our state-of-the-art JEOL Cryo ARM 300 transmission electron microscope. This instrument can perform cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) in its two most broadly used forms, single particle analysis (SPA) and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET, offered end 2020). These imaging techniques allow visualization of biomolecular structures, such as proteins, macromolecular complexes, bacteria, and cell organelles at (near-) atomic resolution in close-to-native conditions (no chemical fixation or staining required).
The CryoEM facility is equipped with a high-end transmission cryogenic electron microscope (JEOL cryoARM300) with in-column omega-filter, phase plate and K3 direct electron detector, two screening microscopes (120 kV JEOL JEM-1400) with LaB6 filament and TVIPS F416 CCD camera, high end GPU powered processing computers and sample preparation laboratory. We provide the following services:
- Access to high-resolution and screening microscopes
- Trainings in
- sample preparation,
- single particle data collection,
- image processing
For industrial partners we can propose a complete package of high-resolution structure determination using single particle cryo-EM
To showcase the world-class scientific research of the Cryo-EM Facility, you can discover their scientific papers in more detail.
We are always on the lookout for highly motivated colleagues to join our team. If you are interested, please contact us.
The Cryo-EM Facility can only thrive thanks to the dedication and commitment of its people, no matter what their function or seniority.
To stay up to date in rapidly developing fields, scientists regularly interact with (international) colleagues. Conferences and other (scientific) events are an excellent way to facilitate such a continent-spanning knowledge exchange.
