Research Focus

The VIB Bioimaging Core in Ghent has specialist instrumentation for both light and electron microscopy and develops Correlative Light and Electron Microscopy (CLEM) approaches to answer complex biological questions.

The core is embedded in the VIB-UGent Center for Inflammation Research.
A broad range of applications is present in the portfolio, covering macrososcopic imaging, confocal techniques, superresolution and electron microscopy. There is a strong focus on live cell imaging, functional imaging techniques, like FRET, FLIM and FRAP and the core also facilitates several CLEM workflows. Users of the core are also assisted and trained for image processing and analysis.

Since the core is equiped with volume EM techniques, like SBF-SEM and FIB-SEM, 3D CLEM is performed. The staff is the heart of the facility and the experts are there to consult, train and collaborate with the user for experimental design, image aquisition and image analysis.

The VIB Bioimaging Core Ghent can only thrive thanks to the dedication and commitment of its people, no matter what their function or seniority

To stay up to date in rapidly developing fields, scientists regularly interact with (international) colleagues. Conferences and other (scientific) events are an excellent way to facilitate such a continent-spanning knowledge exchange.
