VIB is one of the founding members of EU-LIFE, an alliance of leading European life sciences research institutes, which contributes to the improvement of research by influencing European science policies and by developing, implementing and disseminating best practices in the organization and management of research institutes.

VIB has been very successful in both knowledge creation by means of its basic research and in translating this knowledge into societal and economic impact, through a professional process of pro-active technology transfer.

VIB has 9 research centers spread out over four campuses, each with its own expertise.
